Does size really matter?

Of course not!  There are advantages and disadvantages for both large and small clans.

For example, smaller clans are much more effective when it comes to implementing “quiet strategies.”  Examples of this are Capture the Flag, Search and Destroy, etc.  Small teams usually understand how to move smoothly through the maps while hitting all the right spots.  FPS gaming is all about angles and the reality is that there are strategic places in the maps that need to be prioritized in order to win matches.  There is less confusion among smaller teams who know how to get in and get out.

Another important tactic however, is the strategy of mass attack with the purpose of overwhelming your opponent.  This is is a useful tactic for large teams but if it is implemented without organization, a small team can cut right through it.  However, it is more likely that the mass will over run and destroy the smaller team if they use their brains and take the important angles at once.

Aside from a strategic viewpoint is the reality that larger teams and clans attract more players.  Why?  Well simply put, they are there to play against when players are online.  Smaller teams have to be more organized with their times.  If they go into the maps randomly, most likely they will miss each other.

There are advantages and disadvantages to both, but if I had to choose….I would choose to be a part of the smaller team any day.  My advice for smaller teams and clans is to “Set up a day and time to get together to hang out and game.”
